Weapons

Welcome to the Weapons section of Cosplayer's Paradise! Here are a few tips that will help with any weapon would might want to make:

Read Convention Rules
- Some cons won't let you carry cosplay weapons at all in the con. So read up on the convention weapons rules to see if you can even bring a weapon before you think of making it.

Figure out what to use
- There are many materials that can be used to make a weapon: cardborad, styrofoam, wood and many other things. Think about what materials you're wiling spend money on. Also think about how durable you'd want the weapon and how heavy or light you want it.

Tutorials help... A LOT!
- For my first weapon, I used an amazing tutorial found here. I didn't follow the directions entirely, but it does help guide you in the right direction, especially if you're working with styrofoam.

If you decide you want your weapon to be made by me, I can comission one.

Emil Castagnier Sword

Materials Used:
- 1.5 inch thick blue insulation foam (can be found at Loews)
- Coarse, Medium and Fine sanding paper
- Bondo
- Gesso (about 2 layers)
- Chrome spray paint
- Yellow acrylic paint
- Pearl White acrylic paint (for minor details)
- 12 screws

Time Taken: About 3 days

I actually made this sword about 4 times before I found the right method to make it light, but strong at the same time. First I used papier-mache and gesso, but the sword was extremely brittle and I did not use the right type of foam. The second time I use cut it out and used many layers of gesso, but i found out the the sword was cut out wrong (this is why reference pictures are IMPORTANT!). The third time, everything was in order, but i dented it really bad so I had to find something that would make it stronger. The fourth time, I used gesso, then bondo, then gesso again. Painted the sword added details and viola! the sword is noew stronger but it still is very light the carry around.
