Welcome to the Wigs section of Cosplayer's Paradise!
Here are a few tips that will help with any wig would might want to style:
Purchase a good quailty wig
- There are MANY websites out the on the world wide web that sell wigs. But, not all of them are of good quality.
Most likely a cheap wig, won't look good, or even nartural. So shop around careful and do a "background" check
of the place you're buying your wig.
Have MANY reference pictures
- It would be very hard to style a wig of your character if you don't have any reference pictures. Even if you know
the character's hair stlye by memory, it is always good the have a picture to get the wig as close to the character
you're cosplying as.
Tutorials are a WONDERFUL thing
- They help TREMEDOUSLY! I do have a hairstyling background, but it still helped in a very big way. Especially for anime
character with the extremely crazy hair. There is one tutorial that is the best I've found that can help with gravity
defying wigs, ponytails and buns or "odangos". Click here to view it.
FYI:
If you have a wig laying about and you realize, "Hm, I can use this wig for a cosplay but, it's not the right color." Just
so you know, wigs can be dyed! But they're special circumstances that have to be met. Synthetic wigs can not be dyed
with regular hair dye. It WILL destroy the fibers of the wig. I can work with Human hair wigs, but not synthetic.
I also found out (by accident) that Human hair can be dyed with RIT fabric dye, it doesn't work so well with synthetic.
There are many ways of dying a synthetic wig: Kool-aid, Acrylic Ink, Sharpie markers and a few others. Below however, is
a video of the method I used to "dye" or tint a wig of mine.
If you decide you want your wig to be styled by me, I can comission one.
The wig is not entirely done. I still have to do the blue antennas Judith has attached
to her head. But overall, I have the base of her hair. Doing the high ponytail was fairly
easy, it just took extra time because the caulk had to dry beween sections.
